The development of GABAergic synapses
We are studying the mechanisms by which the neurotrophin BDNF mediates activity-dependent development of inhibitory GABAergic synapses. Here GABAergic synapses (labeled for the presynaptic GABA synthesizing enzyme GAD65 in red) are made onto a GFP (green) transfected hippocampal neuron in culture. The synaptic vesicle protein Synapsin I (blue) marks both glutamatergic and GABAergic synapses.
