FACULTY APPOINTMENTS IN NEUROBIOLOGY Duke University Medical Center Department of Neurobiology Duke University is hiring up to ten tenure-track neuroscientists over the next 5 years into the Department of Neurobiology. We seek applications for up to 3 positions at this time. Appointments may be at any level, with a preference for Assistant Professors who would start their independent careers at Duke. Research programs may use approaches from molecular to systems and computational neuroscience to ask questions about the development and function of the brain. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, demonstrated potential for outstanding future achievements, and a desire to participate in an exciting, interactive, and growing community. They will be expected to mount a productive and innovative research program, to obtain outside funding, and to participate actively in graduate training. Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. Qualified women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral positions are available to study signal transduction underlying synaptic and neuronal plasticity. Main goal of our research is to visualize protein-protein interactions at a single synapse level in brain slices or live animals using 2-photon fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy. Candidates with a strong backgound in electrophysiology or molecular biology are preferred. Position Open
One postdoctoral fellow position is available. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is interested in using reproductive behaviors of Drosophila as model system to probe the structure and function of neuronal circuits underlying simple decision-making processes. Candidates should be organized, good at problem-solving, and well-trained in at least one of these three fields: genetics, functional imaging/physiology, and behavioral analysis. Working knowledge in basic molecular cloning is preferred but not necessary. Immediate opening for a Research Technician in the primary culture assay development group
Duties: - Dissection of striatal and cortical tissue from embryonic rats and mice - Primary culture of rodent striatal and cortical neurons and astroglia -Transfection and transduction of primary neurons -Use of automated liquid handling instruments to dispense cells and solutions into multiwell plates -Plasmid preparation, cloning, PCR and genotyping -Preparation of lab reagent stocks and media -Supply ordering -Data analysis and presentation of experimental results at internal meetings Qualifications: Background should include a B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry or related field and some laboratory experience in academic and/or industrial research >setting. Experience with tissue dissection and culturing of primary cells, preferably neuronal, is highly desirable.
