I'm originally from the Great State of New Jersey. I earned an engineering degree concentrating in biomedical engineering from Dartmouth College. I began the MD/PhD program at Duke in 2009. When I complete my degrees, I hope to pursue residency training in neurology. My work involves quantifying the relationship between neural firing pattern changes in Parkinson's disease (PD) and emergence of symptoms of bradykinesia and akinesia. In particular, I am exploring the potential causal link between synchronized beta frequency oscillations in cortical-basal ganglia circuits in PD and these symptoms utilizing computer and animal models. The long-term goal of my work is to provide insight into the pathophysiological mechanisms of PD and enable the design of more targeted and effective treatments. I play flute for the Duke Medicine Orchestra.
