Abstract: Protein AMPylation represents a novel post-translational modification that is increasingly recognized to control proteostasis by regulating molecular chaperones. Dysregulation of protein AMPylation is recently linked to neurodevelopmental deficits, highlighting the importance of this modification for neuronal health and function. The human AMPylase, FICD, and its C. elegans ortholog, FIC-1, are key enzymes required for chaperone AMPylation. In this talk, I will summarize our research on the role of FICD/FIC-1-dependent protein AMPylation in the context of protein aggregation-associated diseases.
