Neurobiology's Josh Huang and postdoc first author Dhananjay Huilgol have a new article out March 10th in Developmental Cell entitled, "Orderly specification and precise laminar deployment of mouse cortical projection neuron types through intermediate progenitors." Establishing a novel genetic cell birth dating method, Huilgol et al. uncovered how cell birth order contributes to the construction of cerebral cortical layers and specification of neuron types. The conclusion leads to significant revision of the current long-standing model of cortical development.
